QUIRKS
Okay, if you would allow me a little latitude, let’s
have some fun and I’ll do my best to answer some of those who have
directly or even indirectly asked why I do what I do – A.K.A. my own
quirkiness.
Sitting down: The reason I rarely sit down at coffee hour or at other
occasions is I want to talk with as many people as possible. Hard to do
when you are planted in one location.
Eating: Similar answer to the sitting down – it’s hard to chat with
folks with a mouth full of food. Trust me I love to eat!
Keeping my vestments on after church: Round three on the above
answer…the reality is that the 30-45 minutes right after a service a
priest interacts with more parishioners than they will the rest of the
week. Amidst a crowd, people often share some very important pastoral
news. Likewise – everybody has a question about something and I want to
be as available as possible. If I go change my vestments some folks
often leave who want to interact with me but can’t find me.
Janitor for Jesus: …neat freak, meticulous, and other words have been
used to describe me - all of which I take in good humor. I am very proud
of our facilities. I know first hand the blood, sweat and tears we went
through to make them a reality and as such I feel called like many to be
a good steward of them. Secondly, it makes a difference when new people
and guests come into our midst. Time and time again folks have shared
with me how wonderful the place is and how it is obviously well cared
for. I can’t over emphasize the importance this plays when people are
exploring an option for a church home.
Walking out with the children: When our oldest was just a baby he was
very active. The Lovely Mrs. Prior did her best during the worship – and
frankly between missing holding him and knowing it was “my turn” I began
carrying him out. Along came his brother and so of course I carried one
and walked out with the other. Then as more kids came to ECOR they too
began to join us…and yes – a child will lead them!
Thanks for embracing or at least enduring these as well as countless
other “quirky” things that have been a part of my ministry with you!
Blessings,

The Rev. Brian N. Prior, Rector
