THY WILL BE DONE...
When the phone call came on Saturday from the President
of the Standing Committee for the Diocese of Minnesota I was literally
physically speechless!
In telling that to some folks they have suggested, “Come on – you knew
this was going to happen!” The truth of the matter is I did not. It is
true that I pondered the possibility, thought God may potentially call
me, but in the end I sincerely thought one of the other outstanding
nominees was more likely to be elected.
Yet, here we are and with mixed emotion. We truly love our church
family, the school where our boys go (go Freeman Scotties!), our old
farmhouse on five acres and a million other things about living here. It
is home. It is the only home (including house) that our boys have lived
in. The Lovely Mrs. Prior and I have spent our entire married life here.
I went to college here (go Whitworth Pirates!) and as most of you know I
was born and raised 180 miles to the southeast of here (go Prosser
Mustangs!). And then there are the shores of Lake Coeur d’ Alene –
specifically Camp Cross where I met the love of my life and learned
first hand how God’s grace can work through you to do amazing things!
And that is why we are going to Minnesota. We feel without question that
God is calling us to go to serve in the land of a 10,000 lakes. We
believe that God uses our history, our experience and the gifts that God
has given us to do amazing things.
We also believe God will continue to do the same with ECOR. We are a
phenomenal faith community. From its inception we have been a ministry
rather than clergy centered faith community. I realize I have been a
significant part of mix. But I have only been a part. Our wonderful
community thrives because there are so many “parts” that allow God’s
grace to work through them to do amazing things.
For the last few weeks I have continued to say, thy will be done. We
believe God’s will is now being done both in our calling to go and serve
the good people of Minnesota and in the next season of clergy leadership
at ECOR…thy will be done.
Blessings,

The Rev. Brian N. Prior, Rector
