A Message from the Rector

August 26th. 2009

LIFE'S MOMENTS

This last weekend I was blessed to be a part of three significant life transitions. On Friday, with many of you, we celebrated Carol Romero’s life. What a tribute to a truly loving person who brought such joy to so many people. Her energy and compassion was infectious. And as a side note – being a part of the funeral procession to St. Joseph’s Cemetery with all those classic cars was incredible and a great tribute to Carol!

Following Carol’s funeral I was blessed to be a part of celebrating the life of Rosella “Sis” Bemis, who is the mother of Joy Flint. Sis was a beautiful person who brought much beauty both in terms of her artistic ability and in her love to her 20 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Departing shortly after Sis’ service I was off to Moses Lake to be a part of one my best friend’s wedding. I have known Colin since he was in Junior High. He was a camper at Camp Cross when I served there. Later Colin served with me on staff. Colin has always been a gregarious character with a significant zest for life bringing endless passion to whatever he does. I have been blessed to be part of most of Colin’s important and life shaping moments and they have shaped me as well.

Like at Sis’ service, Colin and Ann his bride-to-be displayed a “slide show” of pictures of their lives. Watching both of these pictorials was incredibly revealing. Seeing lives lived, surrounded by those they loved and engaging in the things they loved was nothing short of inspiring.

All this reminded me of how blessed I feel to share life moments with folks. Carol, Sis, and Colin all allowed me to be a part of their life in one-way or another. Some of these moments have been sad, even tragic, while others have been filled with great joy. In the end, that is life’s blessing - the opportunity to share life moments with others.

Blessings,

The Rev. Brian N. Prior, Rector
