CONNECTED IN LOVE
On Sunday I quoted one of my favorite passages in
scripture: For I am sure that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor
principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor
height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to
separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans
8:38-39).
Our lives are filled with a wide variety of challenges. Health issues,
family issues, economic issues; the list most all of us face can be
quite extensive. Likewise, we also “miss the mark” – you know things
done and left undone – those things that have us “following the devices
and desires of our own heart” rather than that which God is calling us
to.
These powerful words from Romans assure us that whether “outside
influences” or “messes of our own making” nothing separates us from the
love of God. Do we believe this? Do we live our lives completely
confident that regardless – period – nothing can separate us from the
love of God?
What would it be like if every time we found ourselves in the midst of a
challenging situation we took a deep breath and quietly prayed, nothing
can separate us from the love of God, nothing can separate us from the
love of God, nothing can separate us from the love of God?
This is an exercise a spiritual director suggested to me years ago. When
I have been able to remain focused and do this too, I have been amazed
by the sense of peace that has come over me.
The beginning and end of God’s love is…well there is no beginning and
there is no end- there is love.
Blessings,

The Rev. Brian N. Prior, Rector
